A Kitchen Cart To Spruce Up Any Kitchen
August 17, 2008
Contrary to popular belief, the addition of a center island to your kitchen does not have to be permanent or a huge investment. By using portable kitchen carts or kitchen islands, you can achieve the sophisticated look that is associated with a center island without having to do a major remodel or take out a loan.
In kitchens of yesterday, the kitchen table served as the center of activity in the kitchen. This is where people prepared the evening meal, socialized and dined. Today that trend has shifted to the use of a kitchen cart or kitchen island.
In addition to providing extra workspace, today’s kitchen carts and islands offer practical solutions to storage and design issues. They can be either small or large, and can range in design from simple to elaborate. Use them to prepare foods, serve buffet style dinners, or to provide extra cupboard space. Need extra counter space? Kitchen carts are available in a wide range of sizes to give you that added space you need.
The design options associated with portable kitchen carts and center kitchen islands are endless, which means that kitchen carts can be incorporated into any style of kitchen. Whether your style is contemporary, country or formal, you can find the perfect kitchen cart to complement your particular sense of style.

Creative Ways to Decorate Your Walls
August 2, 2008
Moving into a new house can sometimes cause a quandry. You can stand and stare at large… blank spaces for weeks wondering just what to do with them. These blank spaces are the walls of your new house or apartment.
Most people have a hard time figuring out what to do with their walls, because their thoughts are limited to just paint and pictures. There’s actually quite a bit more you can do to decorate your walls though, and here are a few of my favorite tips:
1. Create shadow boxes. These are especially nice to do as remembrances of loved ones who are no longer with us. If you want to create a shadow box for grandparents for instance, but you don’t have anything handed down from them that could easily be used in this decoration, try visiting around to yard sales and flea markets. Find items that fit the timeframe of your grandparent’s lives, or that remind you of them fondly. Use these items in your shadow boxes, then display them in a nice area of your home to symbolize both the love you had for them, and the legacy they left behind.
15 Summer Decorating Ideas
July 30, 2008
Summer decorating is a wonderful time to lighten up the colors and fabrics in your home. While you may not be able to decorate every room, there are numerous ways to add summer flair. You can decorate with a summer theme such as fruit (apples, strawberries, grapes), flowers (roses, carnations, daisies), or seaside nautical in addition to following some of the ideas listed below.
1. Replace heavy drapery with light sheers. The sheers provide an airy appeal while letting in the sunshine. If removing your existing drapery is not an option, consider changing just the valance and tiebacks to a lighter color. Another option is to use grapevine wreaths, strands of beads, artificial flowers, or decorative ribbons as your tiebacks or swag holders.
2. Store away items that are not useful in the summer such as blankets, throws, and heavy quilts.
3. Lighten up the color of your sofa by placing a slipcover on it or replacing your dark colored pillows with lighter colors.
4. Place light colored slipcovers on your all-wood dining room or kitchen chairs.
5. To add a lighter summer touch to your dark wood tables, use white lace or doilies as runners or tablecloths.
Home Décor for First Timers (no matter what your age)
July 26, 2008
If you’re like most people home décor is a puzzling subject. Unless you are innately artistic and have an eye for color and texture, home décor can become quite a challenge.
There are many factors to take into consideration to be successful in this endeavor.
If you are taking on this task of creating the environment you feel most comfortable in then take heart. There is help and you don’t need to take courses or hire someone at great expense to get the job done.
I would start with finding out what your style is. How do you do that? Quite simple. When you go into someone’s home or go to a furniture store or model homes, what makes you go, Wow, I love this! Does your mood change? Are you happy to be in that environment and can you picture yourself there? You’ll find that it reflects your personality and it just feels right.
Make observation your tool for success. When you start realizing what you really like, start taking notes. Become aware of what colors you like. Someone who is very flamboyant may have vivid colors on their walls with large bright paintings. Someone more conservative may have subdued, softer colors on their walls and furniture. Remember, you are creating your own personal sanctuary. It should just feel right.
Three Ways to Add Charm and Style to Your Kitchen
July 23, 2008
I like decorating my kitchen with a cozy, warm, inviting, homey feeling to it. Usually I’m fighting for all the space I can get in my kitchen too. If you’d like to try this style yourself, you need additional space, or if you simply want to create a different look and feel to your current kitchen decorating style: here are a few tips for you to try.
1. Hang your pots and pans on the wall. This works whether you have a matching set of pots and pans, or whether it’s an eclectic collection gathered over the years. Simply put hooks in the wall, then hang the pots by their handles with the bottom facing outwards. This is particularly useful for space saving and organization too. My favorite location to hang the pots and pans is on the wall right above the stove. If you have the room, this puts the pots on display nicely while keeping them right on hand for cooking.
2. Hang your potholders and hotpads on the wall. If your pans are too heavy to hang safely, or you simply don’t want them on display, or you’d like to add other embellishments to your hanging pots arrangement - potholders work quite well as kitchen wall decorations too!
Adding A Shower Enclosure Can Transform Your Bathroom!
July 19, 2008
In these days of deadlines and time limits, shower enclosures are an increasingly popular option. Jumping in the shower is a time-saving alternative to a long soak in the tub, so having a shower enclosure fitted in your bathroom can transform your daily routine. As well as providing a practical function, a shower stall enclosure can look sleek and modern, adding a touch of style to your home.
To help create a feeling of openness and spaciousness, an all glass shower enclosure can be the perfect choice. Shower stall enclosures made from tempered safety glass can let the light shine through, brightening up your shower times! Clear glass is great if you have some decorative bathroom tiles you want to show off. Alternatively, for the more modest, there is a selection of colored, moldered and etched glass patterns. A frameless shower enclosure offers an up to date look, which also benefits from being easier to keep clean than the more traditional framed option. Simply use a squeegee to remove water droplets to prevent mold growth.
